My never ending Patchwork quilt.

Oh dear i don't think i will ever finish this quilt.

I started making it two years ago and was full of enthusiasm to create a beautiful piece of needlework, but as time has gone on that enthusiasm seems to have dwindled. Rather than get on with it i seem to become side tracked with other projects.

Just the quilting to do now, which i calculate will take at my slow pace possibly another year or two !!!!!!!!

I must admit it looking  pretty good for a beginner and its all hand sewn!! ......... Ooh lots of sore fingers!!

dread to think how many man hours i have spent on it so far.

The quilt is made up of twenty different designed twelve inch squares and is called a friendship quilt.

I chose 100% cotton fabric to make the quilt which when it is eventually finished will be an heirloom for future generations.

I'm not sure if i will ever attempt another though.!!!!

  2. I'm full of admiration, a hand sewn quilt! I never, ever could do this. Your family should be really proud of you. In days gone by a group of women and girls would each make a square. This would then be sewn together and quilted. One person got this quilt, then they started on the next. It was a social thing as well as making a useful item. But you have achieved this all on your own!!!

  5. Wow! Keep going - that is an amazing piece of work and definitely an heirloom in the making. Are you going to machine quilt it? If it makes you feel any better, I started a cot quilt for my niece when she was born - she was 18 in April and it's still not finished!!Yours is just stunning.x

  6. Linda that is a beauty. It's something I have always wanted to have a go at making, sewing by hand is making yours really special I think. Thanks for your comment - my calendar gift was from the lovely Nana go go who is a blogging buddy, (we have never met) who has sent me really lovely gifts over the last few years, we have become kind of pen pals. I know she sent the item from Amazon so you could get yourself one there. Take a look at her blog - she is a knitting queen. Betty
